Egypt achieved revenues worth $6.6 billion from the tourism sector during the first half of this year, an increase of about 5 percent over the same period of the previous year. According to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, Egypt has received 7.069 million tourists since January, a slight increase over the same period last year, which the ministry described as “a record year that witnessed the highest rate of movement in the history of tourism in Egypt.”
He added that the matter "was also reflected positively in the estimated rates of tourism revenues for the same period, achieving an amount of $6.6 billion, compared to an amount of $6.3 billion during the same period in 2023."
The statement, which did not clarify the most prominent nationalities of tourists coming to Egypt, revealed that the number of “tourist nights” in the first half of this year increased, “exceeding previous record levels” by more than 70 million nights, compared to 67.6 million tourist nights during the same period in 2023.
The tourism sector in Egypt, which includes two million Egyptians working in it, is one of the most prominent sources of foreign exchange, which is currently suffering from a severe shortage, which has exacerbated Egypt’s economic crisis.
Tourism in Egypt has faced successive blows since the beginning of 2011 until the Russian-Ukrainian war, which affected the movement of visitors from the two countries, who constitute the largest percentage of incoming tourists.
The number of incoming tourists in the year 2023 witnessed a clear recovery after receiving approximately 15 million tourists, which is “the highest rate of incoming tourist traffic in the history of tourism in Egypt,” according to the statement.
