In a groundbreaking move that positions Seychelles at the forefront of global luxury tourism, Tourism Seychelles is proudly hosting the inaugural edition of the Connect China 2025 Islands B2B Trade Fair, a premier international luxury event taking place from 18th to 23rd March 2025. This prestigious gathering marks the first time an island destination has hosted such a high-caliber business-to-business trade fair, aimed at strengthening ties with the Chinese luxury travel market.

Organized in partnership with Connect China, the event serves as a powerful platform for building bridges between Asia and Africa’s elite travel sectors. A select group of 35 top-tier Chinese luxury travel buyers have been specially invited to interact with leading tourism suppliers from Seychelles, Kenya, and Tanzania, with the goal of fostering long-term partnerships and promoting luxury tourism offerings in the region.

A Star-Studded Opening in Paradise
The trade fair began with an elegant opening ceremony on 18th March at the exquisite L’Escale Resort Marina & Spa. Gracing the event were notable dignitaries including:

Mr. Sylvestre Radegonde, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism

Mrs. Sherin Francis, Principal Secretary for Tourism

Mrs. Bernadette Willemin, Director General for Destination Marketing

Mr. Paul Lebon, Director General for Product Planning and Development

Ms. Zhang Xing, Founder of Connect China

Also in attendance were:

Strengthening Global Ties with Culture and Connection
In his opening remarks, Minister Radegonde warmly welcomed all participants and praised the synergy created by this international gathering. He emphasized the critical role of China in Seychelles’ tourism strategy and the importance of cultivating “genuine, mutually beneficial partnerships” that enhance cross-continental travel and luxury experiences.

The reception came alive with colorful cultural performances, including traditional Sega and Kanmtole dances, offering a glimpse into the rich Creole heritage of Seychelles. These cultural showcases provided a lively and authentic atmosphere for informal networking, allowing buyers and sellers to connect beyond the boardroom.

A First for Island Destinations
The Connect China 2025 Islands B2B Trade Fair not only shines a spotlight on Seychelles as a luxury travel hotspot, but also highlights the nation’s leadership in pioneering strategic tourism partnerships. As the first island destination to host this elite international B2B event, Seychelles is taking a bold step to carve out a niche in Asia’s lucrative outbound luxury travel segment.

The format includes a series of one-on-one appointments, networking events, and familiarization trips across Seychelles, enabling Chinese buyers to explore the destination first-hand and understand the unique experiences offered by the archipelago and its regional partners.

A Vision for Sustainable, Upscale Tourism
The collaboration between Tourism Seychelles and Connect China is part of a broader vision to promote sustainable and high-value tourism. The tourism department believes this initiative will elevate the profile of Seychelles on the international luxury map, attracting discerning travelers who prioritize authenticity, exclusivity, and environmental stewardship.

With Kenya and Tanzania also participating, the event emphasizes the power of multi-destination offerings across East Africa and the Indian Ocean. Such regional cooperation further enhances the appeal of long-haul trips for Chinese travelers seeking comprehensive, luxurious, and culturally immersive experiences.

As Connect China 2025 Islands continues throughout the week, all eyes are on Seychelles as it redefines luxury tourism engagement. The event promises to generate long-term value for stakeholders while positioning the archipelago as a global leader in island luxury tourism.

This milestone event marks a strategic turning point in Seychelles’ efforts to diversify its tourism markets and attract high-spending travelers from Asia. It also sets a precedent for other island destinations aiming to position themselves in the premium travel space
